A collaborative piece with my friend Laura McCormack. Handmade gifts are seeing a resurgence in popularity today, after years of being replaced by mass-manufactured electronics and expensive designer accessories. Websites like Etsy make it simple for a craftsperson to sell their designs to a newly interested audience. When conceptualizing this piece, we wanted to focus on the appeal of the handmade gift, which led us to think about gifts we’ve made and received. For many, especially girls, the first handmade gift given or received is a friendship bracelet. Something from the heart, made to share with those important to you, for them to wear proudly, as a token of the closeness of your relationship. We thought this iconic handmade gift would be the perfect collaborative piece for this show.
Here we have two larger-than-life friendship bracelets, displayed together as a tribute to handmade gifts given to those we hold dear.
