Come on Down

For people who don't know me, I am short; like, under-5-feet short. The world was not built for people my height. Things the average person can take for granted are uncomfortable challenges for me. Driving, reaching or seeing anything on top shelves and high cupboards, furniture suited for people with longer legs, etc. So in this piece I created a drop ceiling from yarn, strings, and ribbons, that was at my height (4'10"). I could comfortably walk under and through it, but for anyone taller than me, they had to be inconvenienced and perhaps a bit uncomfortable to move through the space. Essentially, they got to experience how I feel every day interacting with a world designed for a person of average height.  This ceiling was soft and had a little give, making it safe for others to enter. They were welcome, they wouldn't hurt themselves, but they would have to change how they normally move through a space.
